Accelerated Reader - goal and A.R. reading list

Our A.R. goal for the first quarter will be 25 points. Students will be working for a goal of 5 points for the mid-term which isn't too far away! We will read in class every day, and Homeroom time on Wednesdays is a D.E.A.R day - Drop Everything And Read!

Vocabulary Help

Here's a FABULOUS link to a great vocabulary study tool. Students can get on the site whenever they have time and play games that will help them learn their vocab words for the week. I don't know how we ever learned our vocab words back in the day! It seems so unfair.

A little more about vocab...

On a normal week, we follow this schedule:
Monday - Vocabulary in Context and Choosing the Right Word
Tuesday - Complete the Sentence and Synonyms & Antonyms
Wednesday - Create Flash Cards using index cards
Thursday - Review for Quiz
Friday - Quiz

If we have a four day week, we will do ALL vocabulary exercises on day 1 of that week.

Every 3 units, we take a week to review the 60 words and take a test on Friday.

I am so excited for the new year! I am trying out this blogging thing to see if it can help students succeed in my class. I will try to update this blog on at least a weekly basis, although I hope to do it more frequently - baby steps.
